Accessible and Equally Effective

Couple therapy online makes specialist relationship counselling more accessible for individuals and couples across Ireland. Whether you are looking for support as a couple, attending on your own, or starting individually and inviting a partner to join later, online sessions offer a confidential, supportive space to explore what is happening and move forward towards healthier relationship patterns.

Research consistently indicates that therapy online can be as effective as in-person support for many clients and presenting issues. What matters most is the quality of the therapeutic relationship, a clear structure, and a safe, professionally delivered process — all of which can be achieved through secure counselling online.

At The Couple Therapy Centre by Relationship Care, couple therapy online is not an add-on. It is a core part of how we deliver best-practice relationship support. Our clinical management team has been at the forefront of counselling and psychotherapy online for over a decade, with experienced clinical leadership, robust clinical training and governance, and secure systems designed specifically for therapeutic work.

Online sessions can be particularly helpful for people balancing busy schedules, parenting responsibilities, commuting, or living at a distance from services. It can also support continuity of care during periods of travel, illness, or major life transitions, and may feel more comfortable for some clients as they take the first step.

Clients can choose to attend weekly online, in person, or through a hybrid approach — mixing online and in-person sessions depending on what works best for their needs, preferences, and circumstances. Professional referrals are welcome, and we work collaboratively with referrers to support client wellbeing, appropriate care pathways, and continuity of support.

Is couple therapy online right for us?

Couple therapy and relationship counselling online can be a good fit if you:

  • want professional support but need flexibility around work, parenting, or travel
  • live at a distance from services or prefer to attend from home
  • find it easier to begin counselling in a familiar environment
  • want consistent weekly sessions without disruption
  • are looking for a structured, goal-focused approach to improving communication, connection, or trust
  • want the option to attend individually, as a couple, or a mix of both over time

Online sessions may not be suitable in every situation. If there are concerns about immediate safety, domestic abuse or coercive control, or a high level of risk, we will provide sessions in person for each individual until it is safe to work together as a couple. If relationship counselling is not right for you, we will help you to identify the most appropriate next steps and care pathway.

How online sessions work

Online sessions take place through our secure video counselling platform and follow the same professional standards as in-person appointments.

To help you get the most from counselling online, we recommend:

  • Privacy: Choose a quiet, private space where you won’t be interrupted.
  • Technology: Use a reliable internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone.
  • Time and focus: Treat the session like an in-person appointment — arrive on time and allow a few minutes before and after to settle.
  • Hybrid options: If you prefer, you can attend weekly online or choose a blended approach, mixing online and in-person sessions depending on your needs.

If you are unsure whether counselling online is right for you, our team is happy to advise and help you decide what feels most appropriate.
